The Center For Public Exhibition
Mission
The Center For Public Exhibition creates, maintains and improves the Exploratorium's public learning environment. The Center provides informal science education through interactive exhibits which address and explore the relationship between science, art and human perception. It places strong emphasis on process and experimentation and recognizes the vital importance of research and development. The educational goals of the Center are achieved through collaborative contributions from scientists and artists both on the staff and from outside the Exploratorium. The projects and programs initiated and created by the Center are designed for a diverse audience of all ages and educational backgrounds.
Activities
The activities of the Center For Public Exhibition are at the core of what the Exploratorium does. These activities include:
- Improvement and maintenance of educational learning environment
- Implementation of specific exhibit development projects
- Creation of permanent exhibits by CPE Staff
- Creation of art pieces through the Artists In Residence Program
- Research activities and the creation of temporary installations through the Artist Research Program
- Presentation of special thematic programs/workshops by the Film and Performance programs
- Ongoing weekend Film and Craft Demonstration Programs
- Public Programs including Temporary Shows and Special Events on topics of current interest
- Dissemination of exhibit philosophy and programs
- Continual formative evaluation
- Administration and global direction of CPE activities
