hey all
i caught a nice glimpse of a sun dog (aka parhelia)
today (monday) at about 4:45 pm. actually, i forgot
what it was called at first, but when i saw a tiny
chunk of a rainbow hovering toward the west as the sun
was setting, i figured it was something special.
check out this website
http://www.sundog.clara.co.uk/halo/halosim.htm
for a good source of atmospheric halo information.
this website was listed last year under a discussion
of circumzenithal arcs. i rediscoverd it using the
pinhole archives at the ti site at exploratorium.edu.
i was pleased to find that it's super easy to find
past topics. great job eric muller and others who
archive all of our ramblings.
don't forget to look for "rainbows" even when it's not
raining!
