Why will Na+ give a color in a flame test, while F- won't produce a
flame? Both have identical electron configurations. My understanding
was that emission spectra were only affected by electron
configurations, and not by the number of protons in the nucleus of an
atom. Obviously, something is wrong in the model I'm using to
understand this.
