Does anyone have suggestions for a quick
project to test out the safety of various type of structures?

Adam,
I lost my house in the Loma Prieta earthquake. Being the science educator
that I am, though, I decided to build a model to show my students building
resonance.
I used 6 metal packing straps for the support beams and 3 planks for the
floors/ceilings.
The structure moves quite nicely and I can get resonance at frequencies that
move different levels of the 2 story structure quite differently!
More packing straps can be added in different configurations using clamps
to dampen the motion.
have fun rockin'
Heidi
