old computer needs?

        I have an old Compaq portable gathering dust in a closet. My wife wants to
get rid of it, but I hate to junk a functioning anything. Does anyone know
if there is anyplace to send such a unit that someone might want or am I
living in a dream world? There must be places where a something is better
than nothing.
