I found another excellent website on Iron poisoning, with some more
information.

This site mentions the iron salts which are absorbed; also mentions that
absorption is very poor although goes up in poisoning. No mention of iron
metal chunks like everyone seems to find in breakfast cereals. It is my
guess that this iron may be absorbed much more poorly due to solubility
problems relative to the iron salts. Thus all that iron in total is pretty
useless, and maybe harmless too. Worth someone checking into. Bye, Eiger
