Seems like a non-standard character set here. The character set used
by HTML in the English-speaking and Western European world has no
code point for pi. Your formula near the beginning for the area of a
sphere has either a raised o (as in the "No" abbreviation for
"number", "Numero", in Spanish and some other languages), or possibly
a degree symbol; I don't know which.
I'd suggest "[pi]", messy as it looks, as a replacement. This text
was likely to have been typed on a Mac, an excellent variety of
computer, but unfortunately in its own nonstandard world when it
comes to a few less-used characters.
