Make your own diver; takes patience. Try a film can or a wide-mouth
glass bottle and food wrap across the mouth, with a rubber band to
hold the wrap in place. Add water and remove it to adjust buoyancy.
Metal wire as ballast around the mouth, to make it point down? (Does
the mouth really need to point down?)
Wiht a ballasted bottle, you don't need the diaphragm, as long as the
mouth points down. I did make such a gadget as a kid...
Do if possible: See a Galilean (?) thermometer, the kind that has
little glass floats with numbers in them. *That* is patient
craftsmanship!
