The Center for Ecosystem Management and Restoration (CEMAR) is pleased to announce the availability of Historical Distribution and Current Status of Steelhead/Rainbow Trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) in Streams of the San Francisco Estuary, California. Several years in the making, this document is the most comprehensive and authoritative report ever produced regarding steelhead and rainbow trout in the San Francisco Bay Area. The report reviews all available information, both current and historical, for streams tributary to the San Francisco Estuary, and organizes its analysis by county. The report designates the historical and current population status for each of these streams and provides related information useful to planners, resource analysts, decision-makers, creeks groups, and the general public. It includes 11 x 17 maps, two for each county, showing the current status and historical distribution of O. mykiss.
 
The authors conducted extensive surveys of Bay Area creeks and reviewed the work of previous investigators to characterize completely the region’s steelhead resources. The report uses text, tables, and topographic maps to convey information at various levels of detail. The report contains more than a thousand references, and has been reviewed by staff of the Department of Fish and Game and at least 10 other agencies and organizations in the region with expertise concerning steelhead.
