Plone does a good job of this. We built a collab portal that used Plone and
provided calendering, threaded discussions, wikis, document repositories and
even some simple workflow.

We also built another one under NSF grant (www.opencourse.org) and will be
happy to share the code or experiences with you. The Opencourse one does not
expose all the content management features of Plone.

Subject: SLA-SF: Content Management software

I'm just beginning work on a nanoscience project here and am looking at
management tools software (calendaring, threaded discussions, scalability,
etc.) and have a good handle on that. (We are looking at both commercial and
open source software such as Snope, Mambo, and
Plone.)

However, a big piece of this project, which has an initial life of 5 years
(may be extended) is on content management of articles, documents,
spreadsheets, etc. that will need to be accessible and searchable and will
integrate easily with the software I mentioned above. We are thinking that
we may have up to 100,000 assets/items so I'm looking for something scalable
and easy to use. Best of all would be a feature where a person submitting a
document would get a form asking/prompting for simple bibliographic
information such as author (usually his/her own name), file name and type,
AND 5 keywords that describe it.

Does anyone know of such software? I'm not worrying about a budget at this
point, but of course, we don't have unlimited funds ;-)

Thanks so much,
Deb
