Subject: Patriot Act
I just received the following message from the ALA Washington Office and
am passing it along to you (with permission)
I am going to send my comments along to Diane Feinstein and Barbara
Boxer. I hope that you take a few minutes to contact your Senators and
Representatives.
PATRIOT Act reauthorization bills are about to be introduced (today or
Monday, July 11) in the Senate and House.
The PATRIOT Act reauthorization in the House is going to be marked-up on
Wednesday, July 13th, in both the House Judiciary Committee and the
House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. The bill will be on
the Floor of the House the week of July 18th. We do not yet know the
timeframe on the Senate side.
We URGENTLY need you to contact your Members today - particularly if
they are on the Senate or House Judiciary Committee. Tell them that
librarians want Sections 215 and 505 of the USA PATRIOT Act amended to
protect the privacy of library users.
Please go to http://capwiz.com/ala/home/ <http://capwiz.com/ala/home/>
for specific details of the fixes we want made to the USA PATRIOT Act
and for the specifics of the House reauthorization bill.
