Please forgive the duplicate postings to LLSDC-L, LAW-LIB, and SLA. I
posted the messages below to law-lib on Friday and had no success finding
the answer. Other suggestions welcome.

LAW-LIB POSTING:

I'm trying to find out if this document (SECNAVINST 5305.2) exists and if
it exists on the web. We've tried various DOD and military sites but get
only references to this same cite. Am I looking for the wrong thing?

The cite exists in a document (from the attorney) and appears to be in a
document titled MCO 1650.17F, MPC-35, 11 Dec 1986:

My end of Friday follow-up:

To date our guess is that this is an old Secretary of the Navy Instruction
that may no longer be active and may not be on the web. I've also been told
that if it was superceded, the new Instruction would say so specifically
(e.g. SECNAVINST xxx supercedes SECNAVINST yyyy) and in the text of the new
one.

We do know that it isn't

At least we don't think it is any of those. Better librarians than I have
been able to ferret where no mortal librarian has gone before.

On Monday, I'll try and contact one of the DoD or Navy law librarians (AALL
Directory lists a couple of good candidates), but if you someone in
particular comes to mind, please let me know and I'll make direct contact.
